Victor Penchaszadeh, medical geneticist from Argentina, trained in pediatrics (University of Buenos Aires), epidemiology, public health and clinical genetics (Johns Hopkins University) and bioethics (Columbia University). Former professor of pediatrics, genetics and public health at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and at Columbia University, former member of the Panel of Experts in Human Genetics, World Health Organization, and former chair of the Advisory Committee on Health Research, Pan American Health Organization. He played a significant role in the genetic identification of children of the disappeared by the military dictatorship in Argentina. He is director, Postgraduate Career in Genetics, Human Rights and Society, Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero (UNTREF) in Buenos Aires, and member of the Board of Directors of the Latin American and Caribbean Network of Bioethics (Redbioética UNESCO) and member of the Advisory Board of the National Genetic Data Bank of Argentina, whose task is the genetic identification of persons who were appropriated as babies during the military dictatorship. He has published extensively on clinical and public health genetics, ethical issues in genetics, genetics and human rights and the rational and equitable use of genetic technologies for health.
