Dr. Zarante is a medical geneticist in Colombia, working at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and Hospital Universitario San Ignacio, where he serves as the Director of the Department of Genetics. He is also a member of The Lancet Commission on Rare Diseases. His main areas of interest include medical genetics, rare diseases, and congenital disorders. He currently serves as the President of the Colombian Association of Medical Geneticists and Genomic Medicine. Dr. Zarante studies the prevalence and risk factors associated with the birth defects. He belongs with his team to the International Clearinghouse of Birth Defects (ICBDSR) and the Latin American Collaborative Study of Congenital Malformations (ECLAMC). Dr. Zarante has been Director of the Department of Physiological Sciences (6 years), Medical Genetic Residency Coordinator (12 years), Director of the Human Genetics Institute of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (3 years), Director of the Office of Research of the San Ignacio University Hospital (4 years), Vice President of the Colombian Association of Human Genetics (2 years), Scientific Advisor of the Forensic Genetics Laboratory of the DIJIN, National Police (10 years).
