Fernanda VIANNA

Dr. Vianna is a biologist. She obtained her M. Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Genetics and Molecular Biology. She is a Professor at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul and a Researcher at Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre. Her main research areas are Human and Medical Genetics and Immunogenetics. She works on understanding of the role of the interaction between environmental exposures and genetic variability in the occurrence and severity of clinical outcomes in different human conditions. Currently, she is leading a study in which the main goal is to understand APOL1 mediated kidney disease in Brazilian Afrodescendents. She also has been investigating the Inborn Errors of Immunity in different infections, including COVID-19. She is part of the DNA do Brasil initiative, which aims to sequence thousands of Brazilian genomes from different regions of the country to better characterize this population from a genetic point of view and create a reference genome for Brazilians.
