Mariela LARRANDABURU

Montevideo, Uruguay

Dr. Mariela Larrandaburu, MSc, PhD, is a Medical Geneticist, President of the International Federation of Human Genetics Societies (IFHGS), and Past President of the Latin American Network of Human Genetics (RELAGH, 2021–2023). Her expertise is in clinical genetics, genetic epidemiology, and public health.
She holds a Diploma in Human Genetics (Children and Adults) from the University of the Republic of Uruguay, as well as an MSc and PhD in Genetics and Molecular Biology from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
She is the Director of the Rare Diseases and Congenital Anomalies Program at the Ministry of Public Health of Uruguay and a Professor at the Catholic University of Uruguay in the Faculty of Medicine and the Graduate School. She was selected to join the WHO Technical Working Group on the Burden of Birth Defects (TWGBBD).
